After Revolution of 1857-
The revolt of 1857 the first war of Independence was the first expression of the feeling of Nationalism in India. Now the Indians knew that they belong to a nation they are one and they are held together by a bond of history, economic goals cultural knots.
Furthur, the modern education which was step from the Britishers in India also helped the Indian come closer to each other. The educated Indians now begin to demand many social and religious reforms .
Great social and religious reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Dayanand Saraswati, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar etc. sowed the seeds of national reform.
All of them created Institutions for promoting education and removal of social evils. Many newspapers and magazines were also started in Indian languages in which the problem faced by Indians were highlighted.Though them ordinary people came to know about the miss rule of of the British government.

Foundation of Indian National Congress (INC)-
The British to wanted an Indian organisat ion through which they could know Indian demands. So, the Indian National Congress was formed in 1885.
A.O. Hume, a retired Civil Servant , was credited with its formation. Its first season was held in Bombay under the presidentship of WC Banerjee. The INC tried to educate people politically and to persuade the British government to introduce reforms.
Some of the important leaders were W.C. Banerjee, Dadabhai naoroji, Sunder Nath Sunder Nath Banerjee, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, S Subramania Iyer and Badruddin Tyabji. These leaders believed in patience and non-violence. They were well educated and wanted to win people’s faith to rule over the country. They were called moderates moderates called moderates moderates.
Later leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Aurobindo Ghosh, Chitranjan Das, V.O.C. Pillai, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Bipin Chandra Pal joined the Indian National Congress (INC). They moved the Indian masses with their fiery speeches and demanded immediate action and were called as revolutionaries. These revolutionaries had great faith in the self-reliance and self-respect of the Indian people and believed that Indians had the power and courage to rise against the British and could make great sacrifices. These person believed in direct action. They stated agitation in the form of hartals, Rallies, processions, picketing, Swadeshi and boycott.
